We are writing to you about a new program soon to be initiated by the New York Psychoanalytic Society & Institute (NYPSI), which we believe will be of considerable interest to you and your students. We are planning a Clinical Case Seminar on Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy designed to gather psychiatry residents and psychology graduate students from the final years of training (PGY-3, PGY-4; third and fourth year of graduate school), as well as clinical social workers on their way to licensure.
The primary purpose of the seminar is to provide a group supervision experience moderated by senior faculty from the NYPSI. This seminar will be conducted in the form of one three-hour weekend meeting per month at the home of an analyst. Student participants will present material from psychotherapy cases and the analyst- leader will moderate a clinical discussion. It is also our intention that the group process will facilitate bonds among future psychologists, psychiatrists, and clinical social workers. Mentorship opportunities will be available to help group members plan for post-graduation careers, including help in building a private practice. The pool of available mentors will draw from senior and junior analysts (PhDs and MDs) affiliated with the institute. Although the program welcomes clinicians from any theoretical orientation, the discussion will emphasize psychoanalytic and psychodynamic perspectives.
We expect to commence meeting early in 2012. With this short time frame in mind, we would appreciate your help in distributing this announcement to your students and putting interested parties in touch with the coordinators listed below. It would also help with our launch if you could identify any student who you think might be especially well suited for our program. Each applicant will be interviewed by telephone. There is no charge for participation in the fellowship; it will be entirely subsidized by the NYPSI. For any questions, please call or write to us.
Thank you,
